My 1st Student Ambassador Trip: The Tale of Two Cities; Paris and London

My first People to People adventure started well before liftoff.  The delegates began meeting in January for our 14 day trip in July.  It was the first time for all of us.  Therefore, everyone was a little shy and apprehensive about the pending journey.

But, after meeting monthly, discussing and learning about the region we would be traveling in, our friendships grew and by the time we sat in our airplane seats we were best friends.

We were strongly advised to sleep on the airplane because when we arrived in London it would be morning and we’d have a full day directly when we landed.  But, no one slept…  We were too excited and it was morning for us.

In London we rode the “London Eye” high above Big Ben and the city.  We learned how to sword fight at Warwick Castle and saw the world’s biggest catapult.  It shoots fire balls.  But that happens at night and we were there during the day.  You can see pictures of this in my movie above.  We met with Parliament, saw Shakespeare’s house, took a boat ride down the Thames River and explored Stonehenge.

We took a ferry to Paris where we went to the top of the Eiffel tower.  The tower didn’t feel straight to any of us.  I thought we were going to fall over.  When we got back down on the ground we went to a market place where we all tasted local foods, one of them being escargot and frog legs.  “I liked it!” The food in France was delicious!  The last stop on our journey was Euro Disney.  Why, you may ask was Disney on our itinerary?  Well, I’ll tell you.  Walt Disney created “It’s a Small World” after becoming a founding of People to People.

My life was changed from that point forward.  I had a new perspective on the world and I was eager to make plans for my next journey, to meet new people across the globe and learn new ways of life.
